Community Dreams + Collective Action = Education Justice

  • Black Student Achievement Plan

Creation of a CCS Black Student Achievement Plan to address the longstanding disparities in the educational outcomes between Black students and their non-Black peers, with the goal of increasing Black and POC educators by 50% by 2028. This would be a collaborative effort between CCS, CEA, the community and students.

  • Community Campus Schools

Invest in and expand the Community Campus Schools (community school model), dedicating $500,000 to sustaining the pilot school and expanding to at least 3 more schools by 2028.

In 2024, Columbus City Schools selected Northland High School to be first school in the district using the full-service community schools model developed by the National Education Association.

  • Safe Green Schools

By 2027, complete 10 pilot projects showcasing cost-saving green infrastructure improvements, including solar energy installations, electric buses, and composting programs. Additionally, launch a vocational training program to equip CCS students with the skills needed for high-demand careers in the green energy sector.

In 2013, Cedarwood Elementary School received a new building fit with green space. This project included design features that are sustainable or “green.” These attributes included increased energy efficiency, the expanded use of natural light, locally produced and/or recycled materials, increased air quality standards, improved storm water management systems and opportunities for innovative interior and exterior teaching and learning spaces.
