The Columbus Education Justice Coalition has worked tirelessly since 2022. Our groundbreaking network of parents, caregivers, community members, and educators have made it their mission to ensure the people closest to the classroom have a seat at the table as respected decision-makers for our schools. For the first time ever during CEA’s negotiations, a parent or community observer will attend every session, alongside a rank-and-file CEA observer. This is what bargaining for the common good, with and for the community is about! Our message is clear. We are NOT afraid of politicians. Together with our families, community partners, and educators, our schools and our futures are in our hands!

The path toward the schools our kids deserve is coming together to address the root of the challenges in schools — and that starts with parents and community members joining teachers at the bargaining table.
— Stuart McIntyre, CCS alum & parent

Here’s what we’re fighting for:

  • Community needs:

A full-time school nurse in every school

A full-time school counselor in every school

Community Campus Schools designed by, and for, our neighborhoods

A comprehensive restorative practices and discipline strategy

  • Student needs:

    Smaller class sizes

Equitable learning and working spaces in our buildings

A Black Student Achievement Plan to disrupt racial disparities

    More Instructional Assistant support

  • Educator needs:

Compensation that recruits and retains the best educators

Protected instructional, planning, and records time for educators

Adequate transition time when educators move buildings

    On-time payment of owed compensation
